With the watts/channel nicely matching the typical rating of older speaker gear, I decided to rotate some of my museum pieces through their paces with the A-88. Again...WOW.
I have just been listening to the A-88 with my KEF Concerto's (1971) and also some kit built Philips speakers (also 70's), and what had always sounded surprisingly nice (for an old set of drivers) suddenly has shimmer in the highs and natural clean sounding drums and acoustic bass guitar.
Mating this amp with some current model higher end speakers will likely be amazing when I get there. But I will be blissfully stuck in the past for a while longer.
BTW: I run the A-88 in triode mode. |

Enjoy your 'Living in the Past' . I think I showed you my A-34 and vintage Mirage 750's setup, if the basement wasn't too much of a mess. For those times when I want to take a break from 'my work' and just listen to music. In the www.sound-thinking.org forum. I coined a new word 'Audiophenia' in the audio word of the day thread, vintage speakers and tubes amps is another cure for it
Did you get your house ground sorted yet?
