Greetings all.
Just recently paid a visit to Mr. Ian Grants music lab primarily for a couple of reasons:
1. To test drive some vinyl on the new OC Droplet LP5.0MK-II
2. To listen to a pair of the GF-H1 Shengya V-518's
Just to give some background on what all this will eventually lead up to I'll expand a little bit on what I'm about. I'm a professional engineer working here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I'm moving into the latter part of my 40's. As such, maybe it was mid life crisis or as I believe it was just time to fufill the need to get back into some dedicated 2 channel audio. Was this led to was some effort on my part to do research into where I could find some kick-ass sound and equipment with value for the dollar paramount to my decision making process.
So what did I land on? Well, you guessed it - Grant Fidelity. I've been an avid fan of high end audio for as long as I can remember but up until now I have never really had the financial fortitude to get back into the market primarily because of the pricing many of the high end audio dealers here in the city want for their better audiophile equipment. When it comes to bang for the buck Grant Fidelity solidly foots the bill for that mandate. Not only are you getting preferential pricing which is associated with Grant Fidelity's marketing ideology but equipment perormance as well.
Right around Christmas last year I finally broke down to pull the trigger on the acquisition of a few pieces of equipment with Grant Fidelity. I purchased the Rita-880 with the CD-427 player recommended at the time, some of GF's top end interconnects power conditioner and power cables.
My primary driver here was to eventually get set up with a decent turntable to put my vinyl collection back into action. I'm still working this with Ian and am confident we will we will have the complete set-up over the course of the next several months.
Now to the speaker auditions. Music played: Chris Rea - Auberge, Waterboys duel CD - This Is the Sea, George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice, Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride, some Faith Hill & Martina Mcbride thown in for good measure and Supertramp - Crime Of The Century...
Simply put I sat there amazed at the accuracy of Shenya V-518's. To some the speaker will be too crisp which was definitely the case over at Ian's place but downstairs in my home with some additional sound deadening properties in the carpet, furnishings etc. those speakers where just too good to be true. Take a pair home to audition today - just brilliant!
Further to the V-518's, I test drove Ian's book shelf MBS-1's. Man, are these ever an easy listening smooth speaker. For the money, I dare you to find a better sounding set of book shelf's out there possibly with exception to his RBS-1's. You can sit and listen to these speakers for days without fatigue to your ears in any way. Just awesome! I'm looking forward to the day I can check out those RBS-1's... |

Thanks 2percent and look forward to dropping down and hearing your system and your new Sheng Ya V-518's Fun chatting engineering with you too.
The V-518's do need a decent sized room that you can be at least 8 ft away from.
Cheers,
Ian _________________ www.grantfidelity.com
