The Consonance WAX Engine is a quite remarkable new turntable – improved from the previous Consonance LP6.1 turntable’s minimalist skeletal design, engineered after ‘much higher end turntable construction concept’ yet scaled down to a package that budget minded audiophiles can afford.

Turntable Features:

  • T-shaped unconventional aluminum base, with speed adjustable motor set inside
  • High quality Made-in-Japan Mabuchi 12V DC power supply
  • Low friction, high stability spindle and ultra low noise bearing – a collaboration project with well known New Zealand turntable brand ‘Well Tempered Lab’ (OEM client of Consonance)
  • High quality acrylic platter (black or white)
  • Mono-filament fishing line tied in circle as belt transferring minimal vibration (See FAQ section on how to make your own replacement belt)
  • Three adjustable rubber feet

About Main bearing & Spindle – collaboration project with ‘Well Tempered Lab’

The WAX Engine has been updated to include the Well Tempered Lab (a well known turntable brand from New Zealand) “Zero Clearance” design platter bearing.

The spindle rotates in a Teflon bearing with a triangular hole. The apex of the triangle is orientated towards the motor. This results in astonishingly low friction and a high degree of stability.

The bearing uses a Teflon thrust bearing. The stainless steel spindle has a precision point and rests into a small hole in the Teflon thrust bearing to achieve very low noise.

Tonearm Features: Option of 9″ or 12″

The Allegro 9″ or Trio 12″ aluminum tonearm with cotton fiber internal damping tonearm is a “hybrid uni-pivot” design. It is full of high end features, but still simple to set up.

Rather than a “needle” point commonly used, the Consonance Allegro 9″ / Trio 12″ tonearm features a proprietary low friction brass bearing in the horizontal mode and “pre-loaded stainless” in the vertical. It has precision machined cups encapsulating 4x tapered shafts in a gimbal fashion to control vibration and resonance in both vertical and horizontal motion whilst allowing secure tracking with even the most demanding of recordings.

The aluminum tonearm tube is terminated in a low mass head-shell, anti-skate is achieved by a rod and rider weight, providing a constantly gentle anti-skate across the whole surface of the recording.
